This is one of the best views of the origins and context of AI that I have recently come across. Many times, people tend to overlook the history, the evolution and why the evolution. your article has nicely addressed that. While currently, there is a lot of hype and cautious optimism towards Generative AI, the true test of time will be how "Transformative A" takes off, and what kind of use cases it is able to address, without being cost-prohibitive to build and use those solutions.
Rei, this is great thinking. I love your thoughtful framework based on current insights + well-earned experience. I've been looking for answers to how AI will make design work by designers better. I agree with your assessments that faster, more democratized, and more scalable are top outcomes to expect. I don't know who said "with AI, mediocrity is free" but I wish I'd said it first. I think we'll see a bifurcation in the industry, between companies that use design/experience as a competitive differentiator and those that are fine with mediocrity. I know how AI will play into the latter, but am very curious about how it benefits the former. Thanks for sparking this conversation!

Thank you, Deb.

Denise, seeing your name pop on my screen made my day! What a thoughtful comment. Thank you.
The majority will be okay with mediocrity but quality will be a differentiator even more moving forward in this age of AI.
Seriously this is fabulous. I’m happy (but surprised) you shared this for free.
Thanks for the compliment.
